Visiting the dentist can be daunting for many reasons. Whether it’s because you have put off past appointments or because you’re embarrassed about your teeth, going to the dentist is probably not something you look forward to. Just the thought of it can make you uncomfortable, overwhelmed, and even anxious.
We understand being nervous about visiting the dentist. ImmediaDent is here to ease your anxiety. Here are five tips to make your dentist appointment as stress free as possible.
1. Tell the dentist if you’re feeling nervous.
Sharing how you feel will not only help you feel better, but it will also help your dentist adapt to your needs. By voicing your concerns, you will feel more in control. Your dentist may recommend hand signals for you to use during the procedure if you feel uncomfortable, have a question, or simply need a break.
2. Take deep breaths.
Taking slow, deep breaths will help relax your muscles and regulate your heart rate. When we get nervous, our bodies naturally get tense and our breathing becomes shallow. This perpetuates the feelings of anxiety. Purposefully slowing down your breathing will help your body and mind relax.
3. Know that being nervous is normal.
It’s true! In fact, most people get nervous going to the doctor, especially the dentist. You aren’t the first person to be uneasy sitting here, which is why our staff is trained to make your appointment as stress free as possible.
4. Give your mind a break.
Try not to think about your teeth. That sounds absurd because you’re at the dentist, right? Just for a minute try to think about something else. What are you doing after your appointment? What are you going to have for dinner? Keep going. Don’t focus on the here and now. It won’t help. Thinking about something else will, we promise.
5. Trust the team.
We have a skilled and dedicated team here to help your appointment go smoothly. From the hygienist to the dentist, you can trust that you’re in good hands. Our dentists have seen it all and know how to fix it all. They will take good care of you while you put your head back and your feet up.
Because visiting the dentist can be nerve-racking, Immediadent is here to help. We want your next visit to be your best visit. Rest easy knowing your smile will be as bright as your future.
